| PALM BEACH ZOO SECOND RECOVERY |
provider writes, "Palm Beach Zoo remains closed to the public until further notice due to both Hurricane Frances and now damages incurred from Hurricane Jeanne. After an overwhelming and outstanding public response to an initial appeal for volunteers and help barely two weeks ago, the Zoo once again finds itself in the most distressing position of reaching out to the community."
|
The Zoo’s 900+ animal collection faired very well in spite of Jeanne’s relentless wind damages. However, the park is once again blanketed with unwanted debris, tree limbs and landscape clutter. We are hopeful that some willing and able volunteers will find it possible to once again aid the Zoo in its quest to reopen for all to enjoy.
Weather permitting, volunteers are needed and welcomed at the Zoo daily from 8:30am until 4:00pm with the following guidelines:
Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age – sorry, no exceptions
Come dressed for physical work – lots of raking, sweeping and/or some lifting
Must wear closed-toe shoes
Bring work gloves if possible
Rakes, push brooms and wheel barrels would be welcomed
Bring your own water supply
All volunteers are required to check-in at the Administration Building
A hurricane relief fund will be set up for those wishing to donate to the Zoo in ways other than with physical labor. Checks made payable to Palm Beach Zoo may be sent to the Zoo at 1301 Summit Blvd., West Palm Beach, FL 33405. The Palm Beach Zoo at Dreher Park is a private 501 ( c ) (3) charitable organization. Again, a huge thank you to all those who have shown support in the past weeks during this difficult time.
