| 2-FOR-1 FOR FLORIDA RESIDENTS IN AUGUST |
admin writes, "Jupiter, FL: The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse invites Florida residents to
experience one of the best lighthouses in the state by offering a
special 2-for-1-admission price for the month of August. Florida
residents simply have to show their state identification cards to
receive this special offer.
The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse is a great destination and is the best
view in Palm Beach County. In May, the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse was
honored with an Outstanding Achievement Award in the
Restoration/Rehabilitation Category at the 2003 Awards Ceremony from
the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation. The 108-foot recently
restored Lighthouse was first lit in 1860 and is still in operation as
a navigational aide. Tours are available Saturday through Wednesday,
10 am-4 pm and the last tour of the day leaves at 3:15 pm. The
Lighthouse is closed Thursday and Friday.
The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse is located in Lighthouse Park, 500 Captain
Armour’s Way, (South Beach Road & US Hwy 1) in Jupiter (Palm Beach
County). The Lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic
Places. Lighthouse climbers must sign a waiver to be allowed on the
property. For safety reasons, proper footwear is necessary and all
climbers must be at least 48” tall. No large camera or travel bags are
permitted on the tour. A 15-minute video depicting the history of the
Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse is free and is shown continuously at the
Visitor Center. Admission for the 40-minute docent led tour is $6 for
all visitors, weather permitting. A gift shop is also available
featuring books and souvenirs. The Loxahatchee River Historical
Society operates the Lighthouse. Call 561/747-8380 for information.
This special is not available for group tours. Group tours can be
arranged in advance by calling 561/747-6639.
