| TELEVISION’S “GREATEST AMERICAN HERO” STARS IN FEYDEAU PLAY |
admin writes, "Film and stage veteran William Katt will star in the Palm Beach Shakespeare Festival production of the George Feydeau farce, What a Night! April 20th through the 30th at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre. What a Night! reveals a hilarious chain of events which occurs after a man discovers his wife having an affair with his best friend. Mistaken identity and non-stop infidelity abound in this delightful French farce, written by a man Time Magazine describes as “…apoplectically funny!”
The show’s co-director, Kermit Christman says, “With the dramatic successes of The Woman in Black and Dangerous Corner, the Shakespeare Festival decided on a 2006 season change of pace. What better than a fanciful comedy? Even better still, a classic by France’s master of comedy, George Feydeau.” Christman had wanted to do a Feydeau play, but needed to choose one which could be adapted to serve a modern audience. What a Night! was that perfect choice. “Paris in the 20’s, and all hell is breaking loose when lovers get caught in a plot of infidelity and mistaken identity,” says Christman."

Co-director and producer Del Tenney says, “The play is fast, funny, madly clever; and the idea of Paris in the twenties, a period of art deco, allows for a really colorful set and costume design.”
The new venue also marks a change for the Festival. Christman explains, “With the Maltz Jupiter Theatre across the street from the Carlin Park Amphitheatre, home of the Shakespeare by the Sea plays, the theatres are a ‘back-to-back’ cultural coup for Northern Palm Beach County.”
Christman, working on a new movie with Del and Margo Tenney (of Del Mar Productions) in Los Angeles, decided to bring in a guest artist for the show. Katt had starred in the Palm Beach Shakespeare Festival production of Edward Albee’s Zoo Story in the past, as well as directed Christman’s movie The Clean and Narrow, which premiered on HBO. Christman told Katt about the play and invited him to perform with the Festival. Katt, who was working on a film himself at that time, quickly agreed.
William Katt first appeared with the Tony Award winning South Coast Repertory. Along with impressive theater work, including a recent ACT appearance for ‘The Education of Randy Newman’ and the world premier of ‘Bicoastal Women’ at the Pasadena Playhouse in Los Angeles, Katt has an extensive television and film career including starring roles in Carrie, Big Wednesday and the hit horror film, House. Katt expanded to television with the breakout hit, Greatest American Hero, and was a regular on The New Adventures of Perry Mason.
Keeping to the Festival’s tradition of offering professional theater at an affordable price, tickets are $25 per person and $10 for students. Evening and matinee performances available.
Tickets are available at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre Box Office, online at www.jupitertheatre.org or by phone 561-575-2223 or 800-445-1666. The Maltz Jupiter Theatre opened in February, 2004 as a 550-seat, nonprofit community-based regional theatre and is a member of the prestigious League of Resident Theatres.
The Palm Beach Shakespeare Festival is a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to bringing the excitement and joy of professional theater to all audiences. For more information on the Palm Beach Shakespeare Festivals 16th Season, visit www.pbshakespeare.org.
