The Life Of Reilly
writes, "Maltz Jupiter Theatre and Burt Reynolds and Friends Museum Form Partnership To Present “The Life Of Reilly”

Life of Charles Nelson Reilly Portrayed on the Big Screen in Fundraising Event

(Jupiter, FL) October 10, 2007 - If, in 1940, you had a lobotomized aunt, an institutionalized father, a racist mother, and were the only gay kid on the block, what do you think the odds would be that you'd end up a Tony winner, a staple of television, and a generational icon?

Enter The Life Of Reilly, an adaptation of Charles Nelson Reilly’s acclaimed one-man show made for the big screen during Mr. Reilly’s final two performances of his play in North Hollywood, California. Mr. Reilly also made his mark in Jupiter in the 1970’s and 1980’s when he was a regular director and performer at the theatre when Burt Reynolds owned it. To commemorate his significant cultural impact the Maltz Jupiter Theatre and the Burt Reynolds and Friends Museum have partnered to present the critically acclaimed documentary film The Life Of Reilly on Sunday, November 11 at 7 pm to benefit the Museum.
"
“Presenting the Life Of Reilly in partnership with the museum will be a great way to celebrate Mr. Reilly’s amazing life as well as support the many contributions Mr. Reilly and Burt Reynolds had in this community,” said Andrew Kato, Artistic Director of the Maltz Jupiter Theatre.

Charles Nelson Reilly coined the phrase “the miracle at the truck stop” when the theatre first opened in 1979. He affected and inspired many young actors’ lives through his Burt Reynolds Institute of Theater Training (BRITT) Master Classes at the theatre. His legacy continues today at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre and Burt Reynolds and Friends Museum where Mr. Reilly’s acting methods are often taught by many instructors who are who are alumni of BRITT.

Reilly, an actor famous for his double entendres on ‘70s game shows and lesser known for Tony Awards on Broadway stages, performed his one man show “Save It For The Stage: The Life Of Reilly” for the last time in October of 2004. This film, The Life Of Reilly, is an adaptation for the screen of that performance.

The film takes us through this man’s strange, tragic, and hilarious life, from his birth in a humble neighborhood of the Bronx to his retirement in his posh Beverly Hills abode. Success came to Charles’ professional life, and he has used all the knowledge and expertise he has gained through a lifetime spent acting to teach. His longtime friend Burt Reynolds gifted him the Jupiter Theatre in which to teach the craft of acting, and it has fulfilled Charles ever since. As we leave him in what he calls “The twilight of an extraordinary life”, we see a portrait of an artist, a victim of prejudice who rose above it, a trailblazing comedic personality, an entertainer, a son, a teacher, and a man laid bare for all to see. And the old pro makes us laugh raucously through the entire journey.

“With the support and cooperation of the Maltz Jupiter Theatre the museum is establishing a collection of Mr. Reilly’s memorabilia and cultural contributions to the Jupiter area. Anyone who would like to donate an item to this collection, please contact the museum. We are pleased to come together with the Maltz Jupiter Theatre to host this benefit in honor of our dear friend,” said Mike Daniels, Executive Director of the Burt Reynolds and Friends Museum.

The Life of Reilly, is a L’Orange Film, made in association with Civilian Pictures. It is a Reel Diva Consultants release, directed by Frank Anderson and Barry Polterman, produced by Bob Fagan and Wrye Martine and written by Charles Nelson Reilly and Paul Linke.

Tickets for the special benefit screening at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre are $25 for VIP seats and reception at the Burt Reynolds and Friends Museum and $15 for the movie screening only. Proceeds will benefit the Burt Reynolds and Friends Museum. Tickets are available at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre Box Office, online at www.jupitertheatre.org or by phone 561-575-2223 or 800-445-1666.
