Green Cay Nature Center to Celebrate World Migratory Bird Day With Wildlife Festival and Live Hawk Release
Boynton Beach’s beloved Green Cay Nature Center & Wetlands is set to come alive on Saturday, December 6, 2025, as Palm Beach County Parks & Recreation and the Friends of Green Cay host Wildlife Celebration 2025—a free, family-friendly festival running from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Each year, this event draws nature lovers from across the region, and 2025 promises to be one of its most engaging installments yet. Held in honor of World Migratory Bird Day, the celebration invites the community to step into the heart of South Florida’s ecosystems and connect with the remarkable wildlife that relies on these wetlands.
Visitors can look forward to a full day of hands-on activities, including guided wetland tours, interactive exhibits, a Birdhouse activity room for kids, and opportunities to get up close with live animals. More than 20 environmental organizations will be on site, sharing knowledge, resources, and simple ways residents can support local conservation efforts.
This year’s global theme, “Shared Spaces – Creating Bird-Friendly Cities and Communities,” puts the spotlight on how urban neighborhoods can become safe havens for migratory birds. Through education and immersive programming, guests will learn how thoughtful landscaping, habitat protection, and everyday choices can make a powerful impact on both wildlife and people.
And in true local-news style, there’s a bit of breaking excitement:
The South Florida Wildlife Center will conduct a live rehabilitated hawk release during the event. At 10:15 a.m., attendees are invited to gather along the Green Cay boardwalk to witness a powerful and emotional moment—a once-injured hawk taking flight back into the wild. It’s a rare experience and one of the event’s most highly anticipated highlights.
With six hours of outdoor activities, wildlife encounters, educational exhibits, and community connection, Wildlife Celebration 2025 offers families and nature enthusiasts a meaningful way to explore the wetlands, appreciate South Florida’s biodiversity, and celebrate the birds that travel incredible distances to call this region home each year.
