Meet The Candidate: Teri Grooms

Running For: First District (Three Year Term)
Running Against: Andy Weston, Phyllis Choy

Tell Us a Little About Yourself. What Inspired You to Run for Office in Jupiter?

I am running for Town Council because I believe that we can do better from a government perspective. We need leadership that listens, leadership that puts the resident first, and leadership that isn’t afraid to challenge the status quo.

.

What Do You Love Most About Jupiter, and What’s One Thing You’d Like to Improve?

What I have always loved about Jupiter is the laid-back, casual atmosphere. One thing to improve is transparency from our town government.

Describe Your Leadership Style in Three Words

Community-driven, Principled, Forward-thinking

What Experience or Skills Make You the Best Candidate for This Role?

As a born and raised Jupiter resident, I have a deep understanding of our town’s history, culture, and community needs. My experience on the Historic Resources Board and Planning and Zoning Commission, including two years as chair, has given me the expertise to manage growth responsibly while preserving our unique character. I am committed to protecting our historic and cultural sites, fostering smart development, and ensuring residents’ voices are heard. With a proven track record of leadership, consensus-building, and community service, I am ready to advocate for a thriving, balanced future for Jupiter.

What Is Your Top Priority for the Town If Elected, and How Do You Plan to Accomplish It?

To save Suni Sands. For the past few years, a small group of people have been working to buy the property. I would ask that the Town contribute to the fund, seek private investment, and investigate grants.

How Do You Plan to Keep Jupiter’s Small-Town Charm While Supporting Responsible Growth?

The discussion regarding how we grow is complex, and all residents of Jupiter should have a say or be given the opportunity to participate, whether through meetings, workshops, or even votes as necessary. The town has seen significant growth in the last several years, and it needs to grow responsibly to accommodate that growth. But residents ultimately chose Jupiter for its small-town charm and natural beauty. They did not come here to turn it into a large, traffic-filled city with no green space packed with high rises and shopping plazas. I intend to work with the residents to make sure it retains the charm that attracted newcomers and long-time town residents in the first place.

What’s One Local Issue That Residents Talk to You About the Most, and What’s Your Stance on It?

Suni Sands and Fire are the top two issues right now.

If You Had to Explain Your Vision for Jupiter in a Single Sentence, What Would It Be?

My vision for Jupiter is to preserve its rich history, protect its natural beauty, and ensure smart, sustainable growth that honors the town’s character and enhances the quality of life for all residents.

How Do You Plan to Engage and Communicate With Residents?

For many years, I have been informing residents on social media via my Facebook page, Keep Jupiter Jupiter. I recently started a newsletter for the campaign, and if elected, I would continue to engage with and inform residents in such a manner.

What’s a Fun Fact About You That People Might Not Know?

That I am a second-generation Jupiter native and my family has been in Jupiter for nearly 100 years.
