Tequesta Country Club Launches First Phase of Redevelopment: New Café, Maintenance Facilities, and Pickleball Courts Approved

The Tequesta Country Club is set to undergo a significant transformation after the Village’s Planning & Zoning Board voted this week to recommend approval of Phase 1 of the club’s long-range redevelopment plan. The first phase includes a complete rebuild of the club’s café, construction of new maintenance facilities, and relocation and enhancement of the club’s pickleball courts.

The upgrades mark the first major step in the club’s multi-phase improvement plan, which will later include a rebuilt clubhouse in Phase 2. Village staff emphasized that Phase 1 was intentionally separated so construction on essential maintenance operations could begin sooner while the larger clubhouse plan continues through the review process.

One of the most prominent changes will be the full demolition and reconstruction of the golf course halfway house café, located at the 10th green. The new 1,800-square-foot structure will feature:

  • A one-story coastal architectural style, chosen specifically to reduce height impacts on nearby homes

  • A screened outdoor seating area

  • A covered porch for shade and comfort

  • Service limited to golfers and members arriving by foot or golf cart—no car access

Representatives for the club noted the café is meant to function as a “halfway house,” giving players a place to grab food and refreshments mid-round. The design closely mirrors the look planned for the future clubhouse to maintain architectural consistency across the course.

Maintenance Facilities Relocated and Heavily Screened

To improve both operations and aesthetics, the club plans to relocate its existing maintenance buildings away from Country Club Drive and replace them with a modernized facility set deeper into the property.

The new internal maintenance compound will include:

  • A 9,000-square-foot metal maintenance building

  • An adjacent 800-square-foot covered parking area

  • Office and workshop space, tool storage, restrooms, and break areas

  • An 8-foot concrete wall (appearing as 6 feet from the outside due to grading)

  • Buildings painted green to blend into the golf course backdrop

  • Extensive landscaping to screen all operations from view

A second group of maintenance structures—cart storage, chemical storage, fuel island, and materials bins—will be rebuilt along Country Club Drive in a more organized layout. These structures will also be painted green, kept low in profile, and surrounded by layered vegetation.

Staff noted that the club’s goal was to hide maintenance operations as much as possible.

New Pickleball Courts Arrive With Improvements

Pickleball players at Tequesta Country Club will soon enjoy a redesigned and upgraded court area. The project includes:

  • Four new regulation-size courts

  • A dedicated shade structure

  • Improved separation from maintenance areas

  • Golf cart parking for court users

The courts are being shifted slightly from their current location to allow for better layout, improved screening, and compatibility with the new maintenance yard.

Club representatives said they are coordinating with the pickleball committee to explore additional noise-mitigating features and material enhancements during final design.

Village Staff Confirms All Code Requirements Met

Village planning staff reported that all components of Phase 1 meet the Village’s site plan, landscaping, and special exception criteria. Staff also praised the club’s heavy use of Florida-native and Florida-friendly landscaping, as well as the efforts taken to reduce visual and noise impacts on nearby residents.

“This phase provides the critical framework for modernizing the club’s operations,” staff told the board. “It improves service, efficiency, and the long-standing recreational uses the community depends on.”

A Glimpse of What’s Next

Phase 2—the comprehensive clubhouse redesign—is already deep into staff review and is expected to come before the board soon. Renderings shared at the meeting showed the future clubhouse designed in harmony with the Phase 1 structures approved this week.

With the board’s recommendation, the Phase 1 plans will now move to the Village Council for final approval. If approved, construction is expected to begin promptly, starting with the new café and internal maintenance facilities.
