Bush Wildlife Sanctuary
This week, we wanted to shine a light on one of Jupiter’s true treasures — the Busch Wildlife Sanctuary — and the important work they do right here in our community. 🌎💚
🕐 Best time to visit: 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
📍 Location: 17855 Rocky Pines Road, Jupiter, FL 33478
💵 Admission: Free (donations encouraged)
🕘 Hours: 10:00 AM – 4:30 PM daily (closed major holidays)
Step into the wild and experience Florida’s native wildlife up close. 🦉
At Busch Wildlife Sanctuary, you’ll stroll peaceful nature trails through pine flatwoods and wetlands, meet animal ambassadors like owls, otters, and bobcats, and learn how the sanctuary rescues and rehabilitates more than 5,000 wild animals each year.
We recommend visiting around 1 PM – 2 PM — it’s one of the calmest times of day. The morning school groups have usually cleared out, the trails are quiet and shaded, and you’ll often catch the animals during their early-afternoon activity. Plus, it’s a common window for educational talks or feeding sessions, giving you the best chance to learn directly from the sanctuary team. 🌿
🎟 Don’t miss:
- Daily educational talks and animal encounters
- “Feathers, Fangs, Fur & FUN” Halloween Trail (Sun, Oct 26)
- Gong & Sound Bowl Meditation (Thur, Nov 6 @ 6 PM)
- Yoga in the Wild (Sat, Nov 15 @ 9 AM)
🧢 Pro Tip: Wear comfy shoes, bring water, and stop by the gift shop — proceeds help fund animal care and rescue operations.
🦅 Behind the Scenes
- Founded in 1983, Busch Wildlife Sanctuary is a nonprofit supported entirely by donations and community partnerships.
- Home to more than 300 permanent animal residents, each with its own rescue story.
- The Wildlife Hospital treats a wide range of native species — everything from pelicans and hawks to deer, foxes, turtles, and gopher tortoises.
- Volunteers play a vital role in feeding, cleaning, guiding visitors, and helping with events.
- Their education programs reach over 100,000 people each year, spreading awareness about Florida’s wild neighbors and how to protect them.
🐾 Did You Know?
- The sanctuary’s staff and volunteers handle about 15 new wildlife patients every single day.
- Every dollar donated goes directly toward food, medicine, and habitat upkeep.
- Some of their beloved ambassadors — like Luna the owl, Cypress the otter, and Scout the bobcat — help teach visitors about the species they represent.
- The sanctuary’s new facility opened in 2023 with expanded habitats and a modernized Wildlife Hospital.
- You can symbolically “adopt an animal” to support its care and receive updates throughout the year. 🦦💚
